New Delhi: The demand for large and premium SUVs is continuously increasing in India. SUVs, especially with 3-row seating, are now becoming increasingly popular among large families. In view of this increasing demand, Korean automaker Kia has introduced its flagship SUV Kia Sorento in the Indian market.
The starting ex-showroom price of Kia Sorento has been kept at Rs 27.99 lakh, while the price of its top variant goes more than Rs 40 lakh. With features like premium design, modern features, hybrid powertrain and all-wheel drive, this SUV will be seen challenging vehicles like Toyota Fortuner, Skoda Kodiaq and Volkswagen Tyron.
Tremendous road presence will be seen on the road
The company has kept the design of Kia Sorento quite bold and premium. Its front has vertical designed LED headlights with signature Tiger Nose grille, which gives a strong and modern look to the SUV.
Its long body profile, sharp design elements and large alloy wheels give it a strong road presence. The SUV gets 19-inch crystal-cut alloy wheels, while vertical tail lamps are provided at the rear.
Overall, its design can attract those customers who want premium and modern style with a full-size SUV.
Inside full of luxury and technology
The cabin of Sorento has also been kept as premium as its exterior. 12.3-inch dual screens are provided on the dashboard. Of these, one screen is used for the infotainment system and the other for the driver display.
Talking about the features, the SUV has many modern features like AI voice assistant, 360-degree camera, ventilated powered seats, panoramic sunroof, digital key and powered tailgate.
The Sorento is offered in both 6- and 7-seater options. The 6-seater version has captain seats in the second row, which also have facilities like armrest and ventilation.
Hybrid and Diesel, two engine options
For performance, customers get two different powertrain options in Kia Sorento.
The first option is a 1.6-litre turbo-petrol strong hybrid engine. Electric motor has been used in it along with petrol engine, which is expected to provide adequate power with better fuel efficiency.
The second option is a 2.2-litre diesel engine, which generates 193 bhp power and 442 Nm torque.
The special thing is that the option of all-wheel drive (AWD) is available with both hybrid and diesel powertrains.
Off-roading will be easier with Snow, Mud and Sand mode
With the AWD system, different driving and terrain modes are also provided in Sorento. These include modes like Snow, Mud and Sand.
This can benefit those customers who not only drive in the city but also want to use their SUV in hilly areas, bad roads or in different weather conditions.
No stone was left unturned even in security
Kia has also equipped Sorento with many modern technologies in terms of safety. The SUV has features like 10 airbags, Level 2+ Advanced Driver Assistance System (ADAS), blind-spot monitoring and multi-collision braking.
ADAS technology helps reduce the risk of potential collisions while driving and provides additional assistance to the driver.
Fortuner and Kodiaq will be challenged
At a starting price of around Rs 28 lakh, the biggest attraction of the Kia Sorento is its feature package. Hybrid technology, AWD and premium cabin with 3-row seating can give it a distinct identity in this segment.
While the Toyota Fortuner is known for its solid build and powerful SUV image, the Sorento will try to attract customers with more technology, comfort and a hybrid powertrain.
For those customers who want a large family SUV with premium features, better technology, AWD and hybrid options, Kia Sorento can become a new and interesting option.
