NHAI has developed a scheme to remedy this inconvenience. The National Highways Authority of India has announced a scheme under which people reporting unsanitary toilets will get a direct recharge of Rs 1000. What is the scheme of National Highways Authority of India?
When did this scheme start?
The scheme is a part of the 'Clean Toilet Picture Challenge' launched in September 2025. NHAI has extended this scheme till June 30, 2027. Many people have benefited from this scheme. They have obtained FASTag recharges by informing NHAI about unsanitary toilets.
So far in 2026, 429 passengers who complained about unsanitary toilets have received a FASTag recharge of ₹1,000. All passengers traveling on national highways can avail this scheme. To participate, they need to upload a geo-tagged candid photo and a timed photo using the Highway Yatra mobile app.

Users also have to provide their basic information. While sending the photo, send it along with name, location, vehicle registration number and mobile number. Don't forget to send your vehicle registration number along with it. They will get direct recharge of ₹1,000.
The reward will be in the form of FASTag recharge, which will be credited to the account of the linked vehicle registration number. A vehicle will get the benefit of this scheme only once during the entire scheme.
If more than one complaint is filed for the same facility, the first complaint will get the benefit. This scheme is applicable only to toilet facilities under NHAI. NHAI has shared this information on social media.
