Liam Hemsworth and Stanley Tucci’s dystopian movie is in theaters now! The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 2 has returned for a limited theatrical event today, September 6, 2026.

Lionsgate and Fathom Entertainment are presenting the 2015 finale as part of a special franchise event. The five-film run started on September 3 and will last till September 7. Screenings also include an exclusive sneak peek at The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping.

How Mockingjay – Part 2 brings Katniss’ story to its end

The story follows Jennifer Lawrence’s Katniss Everdeen as Panem’s rebellion enters its final stage. She joins Gale, Peeta, and Finnick on a mission into the Capitol with District 13 forces. Their objective is to help defeat President Snow and end his control over Panem.

The mission exposes Katniss to deadly traps, enemy attacks, and painful losses. As the rebellion succeeds, she becomes caught between Snow and District 13 leader Alma Coin. The conflict forces Katniss to question whether the new leadership will truly create a better Panem.

In the final confrontation, Katniss turns her attention toward Coin instead of Snow. She kills Coin during a public execution, changing the course of Panem’s future. Snow dies soon afterward as the Capitol’s old order finally collapses.

The aftermath moves Katniss away from the political struggle and toward a quieter life. She eventually rebuilds her life with Peeta, while Panem begins recovering from years of violence. The ending gives Katniss a future beyond the rebellion that defined her story.

Francis Lawrence directed the film from a screenplay by Peter Craig and Danny Strong. Lawrence leads the cast featuring Josh Hutcherson, Hemsworth, Stanley Tucci, Woody Harrelson, Elizabeth Banks, Donald Sutherland, Julianne Moore, and Sam Claflin.

The film runs for 2 hours and 17 minutes and carries a PG-13 rating. It currently has a 70% Tomatometer score and a 66% audience score on Rotten Tomatoes.

The movie had a reported production budget of $160 million. It earned around $281.7 million domestically and $646.1 million worldwide during its original theatrical run.
