Villagers are facing serious problems due to lack of proper drainage system of the years old pond in Manigarhi sub-village of Gram Panchayat Pamari of Tundla development block. The pond is completely filled with water and now its water has started flowing back towards the nearby houses. Due to this there is concern and anger among the villagers.

Villagers say that there is no permanent arrangement for drainage of water from the pond. The situation becomes more serious during the rainy season. Along with damage to houses due to waterlogging, the risk of spreading infectious diseases due to dirt and contaminated water has also increased.

Application form was given in 2023

According to the villagers, to solve the problem, on January 16, 2023, on behalf of all the villagers, an application was given to the Block Development Officer (BDO) Tundla demanding construction of a drain to drain the pond water. After this, a drain was constructed, but it was not connected to the pond. The villagers allege that despite the construction of a drain, no way could be made to drain the water from the pond.

Villagers said that after this, applications were given several times to the Tehsil and Block Development Office, but a permanent solution to the problem could not be found. As a result, the water of the pond is not able to come out even today and the problem of waterlogging is becoming increasingly severe.

Increased risk of water entering houses

Due to continuous filling of the pond, water is rising towards the nearby houses. Villagers fear that if drainage arrangements are not made soon, the situation may become more serious during the rains. Due to this, along with damage to houses, villagers may have to face financial and health problems.

Demand for immediate action from officials

The villagers have demanded from the Block Development Officer and the concerned officers that the actual condition of the pond should be taken stock of by inspection on the spot and proper arrangements for drainage of water should be made immediately by connecting the pond to the drain. Villagers say that the people of the village will get relief only if there is a permanent solution to this long standing problem.
