Automobile Desk. The demand for electric two-wheelers in the Indian automobile market is increasing rapidly day by day. The recently released sales figures for the month of August have proved that people are increasingly leaving petrol vehicles and turning to electric vehicles. Throughout this month, almost every major electric vehicle manufacturer has registered a tremendous increase in its sales. However, while some companies have touched new heights in this market race, this month was not as expected for the leading brand Ola.

TVS Motor is the first name in the sales figures. The company has achieved the first position by maintaining its strong hold in the market. TVS sold a total of 48,873 electric vehicles during August. The company has achieved an impressive growth of 91 percent as compared to 25,546 vehicles sold in the same period last year. At present, TVS occupies 27 percent of the total electric two-wheeler market. Its popular models iQube and the new Orbiter are believed to be the biggest contributors behind this success of the company, although there has been a slight decline in its monthly sales as compared to the month of July.

Bajaj Auto has significantly reduced its gap with TVS by occupying the second position. Bajaj sold 41,019 units in August, registering a massive growth of 235 percent as compared to just 12,246 units last year. At present the company has 22 percent share of the total market. At the same time, Ather Energy has registered its presence at the third position. Ather sold 28,708 vehicles, a year-on-year growth of 49 percent. Due to the recent launch of new models and network expansion, Ather continues to receive good response among Indian customers.

At the fourth position was Hero MotoCorp's 'Vida' brand, which achieved an annual growth of 38 percent by selling 18,978 vehicles. In contrast, this month was disappointing for Ola Electric, which once ruled the market. Ola was the only major company to register a decline in annual sales and slipped straight to fifth position with a figure of 13,849 units.

Apart from big brands, many emerging startups have also surprised everyone with their performance this month. Greaves e-Mobility recorded sales of 8,612 units, up 89 per cent, while River Mobility sold 5,134 scooters, registering a growth of 170 per cent. Bigos Auto also succeeded in strengthening its hold by selling 4,844 units. Among smaller players, Simple Energy delivered 1,635 vehicles. The most surprising figure was that of Motovolt Mobility, which recorded a record growth of 509 percent and sold 1,365 units. With the entry of new models in the market like Ather Konark and Simple Wave, this competition is expected to become more interesting in the coming times.
