As GLP-1 medicines gain attention in India’s weight-management space, the focus is increasingly shifting from whether the medicines work to how they should be used safely and under proper medical supervision.
MetaGO, a doctor-led metabolic health platform, has opened its first physical clinic in Andheri, Mumbai, offering an in-person approach to medically supervised weight management.
Why medical supervision matters
GLP-1-based medicines are prescription therapies and are not suitable for everyone. Doctors need to consider a person’s medical history, health conditions, treatment goals and other factors before deciding whether medication is appropriate.
MetaGO says its programme begins with a metabolic assessment covering more than 35 health markers. A doctor then reviews the patient’s medical history, diagnostic information and weight-management goals before developing an individual treatment plan.
Where clinically appropriate, medicines such as semaglutide or tirzepatide may be considered.
Treatment goes beyond weight-loss injections
MetaGO’s approach combines medical treatment with nutrition and health coaching, diagnostics and continuing follow-up.
According to the company, its programme includes monthly doctor consultations, weekly one-to-one sessions with nutrition or health coaches, quarterly at-home blood diagnostics and ongoing chat support.
The aim is to address weight management as a longer-term health issue rather than simply providing medication.
Clinic expands access in Mumbai and beyond
The Andheri clinic operates seven days a week from 10 am to 8 pm. MetaGO also offers an online programme for patients outside Mumbai, including remote consultations, at-home diagnostics, medicine delivery and digital support.
The company lists Kunal Kapoor, Varun Sheth and Zaheer Adenwala as its founders and has a clinical team that includes doctors such as Dr Kaushal Patel, Dr Deep Hathi, Dr Shubhashree Patil, Dr Abhinav Garg and Dr Yash Chauhan.
What patients should check before starting treatment
With weight-loss injections becoming more visible, patients are advised to understand who is prescribing the medicine, whether their medical history and test results are being reviewed, how side effects will be monitored and what happens if treatment needs to be changed or stopped.
In India, GLP-1 medicines used for diabetes or weight management are prescription medicines. Proper medical evaluation and supervision therefore remain important.
MetaGO’s new clinic reflects the growing shift towards structured weight management that combines medical assessment, prescription treatment, lifestyle support and long-term follow-up.
