Union Road Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari has officially flagged off a special and miraculous machine developed by the Indian Institute of Technology Delhi (IIT Delhi), which has the power to directly reduce the dangerous smoke and pollution emitted from old diesel vehicles by up to 90 percent. This special technology, prepared after long research by the scientists and researchers of Indian Institute of Technology Delhi (IIT Delhi), has been officially named Retrofit Emission Control Device (RECD), which can be easily fitted in any old diesel engine vehicle. This advanced device effectively controls the toxic particulate matter (PM) emitted from the vehicle's silencer by about 90 percent. Along with this, it also reduces the amount of dangerous nitrogen oxide (NOx) gas dissolved in the air by about 60 percent. Recently, while addressing an important program of the Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM), Union Minister Nitin Gadkari himself shared the success of this revolutionary technology and said that if this device is successfully installed in an old BS-III or BS-IV standard diesel vehicle, then that vehicle will start working pollution-free at the level of modern BS-VI standards. Commercial vehicle owners will get relief, freedom from sending them to the scrapyard. The biggest challenge faced by the drivers of the country, especially the owners of commercial vehicles, has been that after the completion of the period of 10 or 15 years, they were forced to scrap the vehicles purchased with their lifetime earnings, which badly affected their financial condition. Referring to this serious problem, Nitin Gadkari said in clear words that now a huge relief can be given to the public regarding the operation of old vehicles and there will be no need to convert every vehicle into junk without thinking because buying a new commercial vehicle and putting it on the road is not within the reach of every poor or middle class person. The biggest feature of this device is that despite being technologically advanced, it will be within the reach of the general public and its estimated price in the market is expected to be only around Rs 4,000 to 5,000, which is like a drop in the bucket compared to buying a new car. Draft notification will be issued soon under Automotive Industry Standard. To ensure the commercial use of this innovative technology and its easy access to the general public, the government is very soon going to issue an official draft notification under Automotive Industry Standard (Automotive Industry Standard 228), after which vehicle owners will be able to easily get it installed in their vehicles. According to sources, the use of this state-of-the-art device will not be limited only to four-wheeler or heavy diesel vehicles, but it can also be used effectively in different types of diesel generators to prevent pollution. If this technological initiative proves to be completely successful on experimental and practical grounds, it will prove to be a historic and relief gift for the country's environmental protection as well as vehicle owners, which will lead to a huge reduction in pollution levels and mobility will also not be hampered. Talking about the management of old vehicles and the future strategies of the auto industry, Union Minister Nitin Gadkari had earlier appealed to the vehicle manufacturing companies to increase the incentive amount to encourage customers to scrap their old vehicles, as this will ultimately lead to a huge jump in the sales of the automobile sector and will also reduce the production cost. Addressing the inaugural session of the 66th annual conference of SIAM, he had explained to the vehicle companies that the government's scrapping policy is not a loss deal for anyone but it will increase the production capacity of the companies and there will be a big increase in the demand for new vehicles in the market.
