Russian President Vladimir Putin has ordered the Russian military to halt its offensive on Kiev for three days as US special envoys Steve Wittkoff and Jared Kushner visit Moscow for talks on the Ukraine war. Russia’s state news agency TASS quoted Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov as saying Putin would hold talks with Witkoff and Kushner on Saturday. The Kremlin announced that it would brief the media after the Russian leader’s talks with US special representatives. Russian President Vladimir Putin has ordered a 72-hour halt to attacks on Kiev, AP reported, citing the Kremlin.
Witkoff and Kushner arrived in Moscow on Saturday for talks aimed at resuming efforts to end Russia’s war in Ukraine, now in its fifth year. Two people familiar with the visit told Reuters that the US delegation was greeted at the airport by Russian presidential envoy Kirill Dmitriev. A witness saw a motorcade carrying Vitkoff, Kushner and Dmitriev leaving Moscow’s state airport for the city. Dmitriev attended previous meetings of US negotiators with Putin and stayed in touch with him during breaks in his visits to Russia.
