Mumbai Tata-led airline Air India on Friday terminated the services of the pilot-in-command of the Phuket-Delhi flight, who tested positive for drug use. The chief pilot of the Phuket-Delhi flight was terminated after the test confirmed drug use, Air India said in a statement today.
This announcement from the airline company has been made a few hours after the preliminary report of the Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau (AAIB), the agency investigating the Phuket flight incident, came. The AAIB report said that drug consumption by the pilot is a matter of serious concern and had asked the aircraft regulator Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) to take appropriate action.
AAIB has released the preliminary investigation report of this case today. 20 passengers and four crew members were injured in this plane incident. Air India had initially attributed the loss of altitude to turbulence, but a report from the plane maker revealed that the elevator and aileron controls were not functioning for about four seconds due to hydraulic pressure problems in the plane’s green, blue and yellow systems.
