Apple’s first foldable iPhone is said to be not far away. But the biggest question at this time is not only when will the phone be launched or how much will it cost, but also what name will Apple give to its first foldable iPhone?

The names iPhone Ultra and iPhone Fold have been in the news for some time. According to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, many people inside Apple informally call this device iPhone Ultra. However, he has also clarified that this does not mean that this will be the final marketing name of the phone. Now a new name has emerged in this discussion – iPhone Duo.

Why did the name iPhone Duo come into discussion?
MacRumors has put forward iPhone Duo as a possible name for Apple’s first foldable iPhone. However, at present there is no official confirmation of this name and it is being considered as just a rumour. Still, the name “Duo” doesn’t seem entirely strange given Apple’s history. The company introduced the PowerBook Duo laptops in the 1990s. Apart from this, Apple also launched MagSafe Duo charger.

The name “Duo” could have another meaning for the foldable iPhone. The phone will have two screens or two parts, which will fold on top of each other like a book. In such a situation, the name Duo may point towards this design.

iPhone Duo also has a big problem
However, the “Duo” name isn’t necessarily the perfect choice for Apple. Microsoft has already launched a dual-screen smartphone called Surface Duo. Whereas Intel used Core Duo processor many years ago. In such a situation, Apple may not like a name for its foldable iPhone, whose identity is already associated with the products of other tech companies.

iPhone Ultra name also a strong contender
On the other hand, the iPhone Ultra name fits quite well with Apple’s existing premium branding. The company already uses the Ultra name on Apple Watch Ultra, CarPlay Ultra, and high-end M-series chips.

If the foldable iPhone is named iPhone Ultra, then it could make its place as Apple’s most premium iPhone above the Pro models. However, there is a problem with this name too. Samsung already uses the Ultra name for the Galaxy S Ultra series and the Fold name for the Galaxy Z Fold series. In such a situation, the name iPhone Ultra or iPhone Fold will not seem completely new to Apple.

When can foldable iPhone come out?
Apple’s fall event is expected to be held next week on September 9. The theme of the event is said to be “Surprise and Shine”. The foldable iPhone is said to be introduced at this event along with iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max. According to the information revealed so far, Apple’s foldable iPhone may come with a book-style design. That is, instead of folding up and down like a flip phone, it will open from the side like a book.

Ultra, Fold or Duo?
Currently, three names are in discussion regarding the name of Apple’s first foldable iPhone – iPhone Ultra, iPhone Fold and iPhone Duo. The iPhone Ultra could easily fit in with Apple’s existing premium branding. The name iPhone Fold directly refers to the phone’s foldable design, while iPhone Duo is a nod to Apple’s older product names and may allude to the phone’s two screens.

But Apple has not yet officially confirmed any of these names. Therefore, it is difficult to say which name the company will ultimately choose. Apple may choose any one of these three options or may prove all the speculations wrong by introducing a completely new name in the launch event. Now the official announcement from Apple is awaited. Soon it will become clear whether the company will launch its first foldable iPhone in the market with Ultra, Fold, Duo or some completely different name.
