Atalanta and Roma have both issued official statements after a bitter altercation involving directors and former colleagues Luca Percassi and Tony D’Amico following a dramatic Serie A match.

The Giallorossi struck twice in stoppage time to come from behind after Ederson had scored, with Mario Hermoso and Matias Soulé sealing a 2-1 win at the Stadio Olimpico.

There was already tension at the final whistle, including a red card for Dea midfielder Gianluca Gaetano, but the situation continued long after the game had ended.

In the backdrop to the row was also the fact that current Roma sporting director D’Amico had been working for the Bergamo club until only a few weeks ago.

According to Corriere dello Sport and Tuttomercatoweb, Percassi approached D’Amico and started directing insults at him, with the confrontation carrying on all the way to the parking area.

Reports added that D’Amico did not respond to the insults and that security staff had to step in to separate the two men.

“AS Roma expresses its full support for Sporting Director Tony D’Amico in relation to the events that occurred following the match against Atalanta,” read the statement.

“The Club considers the conduct of Atalanta CEO Luca Percassi towards one of its executives unacceptable and wishes to highlight the professionalism shown by D’Amico, who refrained from reacting in any way.

“AS Roma will refer the matter to the relevant sporting justice authorities for their appropriate consideration.”

Atalanta then released their own statement this afternoon, presenting a very different account of what happened.

“Atalanta BC firmly reject the evaluation expressed by AS Roma towards CEO Luca Percassi. The Club, considering it opportune not to further fuel the matter via public comment, can declare itself entirely at the disposal of sporting justice investigations to verify the circumstances.”
