The talks are taking place amid reports of tensions between India and China in the Taksing area of ​​Arunachal Pradesh’s Upper Subansiri district. The meeting of senior military officers from both sides is considered important in the context of the current situation on the border and de-escalation measures.

The Indian side will be led by Lt. Gen. Girish Kalia. He is the Commander of 3 Corps (Spear Corps) of the Indian Army. 3 Corps is headquartered at Rangapahar in Nagaland and is responsible for the operational area along the LAC in central and eastern parts of Arunachal Pradesh. Meanwhile, former Chief of Defense Staff (CDS) General Anil Chauhan in a statement termed China as a long-term and comprehensive challenge to India and said the border dispute between the two countries is still unresolved. He added that there is no complete agreement between the two sides on the position of the Line of Actual Control (LAC). However, India-China relations cannot be limited to the border dispute.

Speaking at a lecture on “Threats and Challenges to India’s Security” at the Tin Murthy Bhavan complex on Saturday, General Chauhan said China poses a distinct and long-term challenge to India. He said that China and India are the two major Asian powers, with large economies and ancient civilizations. Therefore, it would be inappropriate to view their relationship only from the perspective of border dispute.

He said that both countries cooperate and compete with each other. Furthermore, there is a difference in their perspectives on the regional and global order. In such a situation, it is necessary to maintain communication and contact with China. The former CDS said vigilance, credible military capabilities, clear agreements and their consistent compliance are essential to maintain stability along the border. He added that the dialogue process between the two countries should continue with efforts to resolve the border dispute.
