Lucknow: A very shocking case of fraud has come to light during the ongoing police recruitment process in Kanpur, Uttar Pradesh. In their desire to wear uniform, two twin brothers conspired to deceive the officers in such a way that anyone would be fooled at first sight. When the height of one brother turned out to be less than the prescribed standards, on the pretext of getting the medical examination done again, he fielded his taller twin brother in his place. This entire incident happened during the physical standard examination conducted in Kanpur Police Lines. This ruse, created by having an identical face and wearing identical clothes, initially seemed successful, but modern biometric technology and the vigilance of the officials exposed this entire game.

took advantage of similar appearance

Candidate Bhupendra, a resident of Agra, had come to participate in the physical measurement after passing the written examination. In the initial investigation, his height was recorded as 166.4 cm and chest was 79 cm, which was less than the standard and he was disqualified.
Under the recruitment rules, a candidate has the right to appeal for re-examination, and Bhupendra applied for re-examination by taking recourse to this rule. From here the real drama of fraud between the two brothers started.

Biometric exposed

During the re-investigation process, in place of Bhupendra, his twin brother Bhupesh appeared before the officials wearing exactly the same clothes and carrying the same items. When the height was measured again, it came out to be 169.6 cm.
Suddenly, the investigating officers were shocked to see such a huge difference of 3.2 cm. However, after matching the photographs and faces, the appearance of both of them looked completely similar, due to which the matter was not caught at first glance, but the suspicion of the officials was not dispelled.

Truth exposed through biometric testing

As the suspicion deepened, the officials immediately decided to conduct biometric testing of the candidates. When the fingerprint and retina of the eyes were matched, the system flatly refused to match the record. As soon as there was a biometric mismatch, the entire planning of the two brothers went haywire. During strict interrogation, the truth came out that the young man who had come to get measured was not Bhupendra, but his brother Bhupesh. The plan was that after registering a higher length than Bhupesh, he would go out and Bhupendra would take his place.

Police arrested both of them

As soon as the matter came to light, the police immediately took into custody the main candidate Bhupendra, who was present outside the campus. On the complaint of Police Line Sub-Inspector, Kotwali police have registered a case of cheating and forgery against both the brothers and arrested them. Police have also recovered two mobile phones along with identity and educational documents from the accused. This attempt to cheat the system by taking advantage of facial similarity ultimately proved unsuccessful due to the promptness of technology.
