Dr. Bimal Chhajer, MD, MBBS, founder of Saul Heart Center, explained in his YouTube video how consumption of jowar can be beneficial for the body and what is the right way to include it in the diet.

Which nutrients are found in sorghum?
Dr. Bimal Chhajer says that there are approximately 330 calories in 100 grams of jowar. It contains about 72 grams of carbohydrates, 10-11 grams of protein and about 3 grams of fat. At the same time, about 6-7 grams of fiber and about 350 mg of potassium are found in jowar.

How is it beneficial for the heart?
Doctor Bimal Chhajer says that jowar flour is very beneficial for the heart. Potassium is found in abundance in it, which helps in controlling blood pressure and removing extra sodium from the body.

Controls blood sugar
Jowar flour is beneficial in controlling high blood sugar because its glycemic index is very low. Also, the complex carbohydrates and fiber present in it are helpful in controlling glucose absorption.

Since this grain is gluten free and rich in fiber, it improves digestion, which also relieves the problem of constipation. Being gluten free, this grain is also helpful in reducing weight. Being gluten-free, people who are gluten sensitive can consume it. Being rich in antioxidants, it helps in reducing oxidative stress.

How to consume?
You can consume jowar flour in the form of roti and bhakri. By eating it in multigrain (mixed with other grains) form, its nutrients increase manifold.
