New Delhi: Delhi Municipal Corporation (MCD) has taken major action in the matter of collapse of about 50 years old building in Satya Niketan. After the accident, five officers including the Deputy Commissioner of South Zone have been suspended with immediate effect. In this accident that happened on Sunday, till now 12 people have been pulled out from the debris, out of which 7 have died. At the same time, the rescue operation is still going on.

The punishment of suspension fell on these officers

The names of five suspended officers have been mentioned in the order issued by MCD on Monday. These include-

Rakesh Kumar- Deputy Commissioner, South Zone
Ranveer Singh- Superintending Engineer, South Zone
Lalit Kumar Goyal- Executive Engineer (Building), South Zone
Sunil Chauhan- Assistant Engineer (Building), South Zone
Ashish Kumar- Junior Engineer (Building)

CM Rekha Gupta again took stock

Chief Minister Rekha Gupta once again reached Satya Niketan on Monday morning and saw the situation of relief and rescue operations. During this time, senior officials of Delhi Government and MCD were also present with him. Earlier, the government had ordered a magisterial inquiry into the accident.

The Chief Minister has given instructions to register an FIR against the building owner. Also, if any negligence of any MCD official is revealed in the investigation, then strict action has been taken against him. Instructions have also been given to check the nearby PG and other buildings. If any violation of rules is found, the concerned buildings will be sealed.

Don't know how many people are trapped in the debris

NDRF said on Monday that after the accident, relief agencies have so far rescued 12 people from the debris. However, it is not yet clear how many people may be trapped under the debris. Therefore, the search operation is being carried out continuously.

According to NDRF IG Narendra Bundela, at present no definite data is available regarding the number of people trapped under the debris. The team is using cutters, hydraulic jacks and trained dog teams to locate possible survivors. Two technical teams of NDRF are deployed at the spot since Sunday.

The building collapsed during repairs

This building located near the South Campus of Delhi University was being used as a boys' PG. Repair work was going on around 1.30 pm on Sunday afternoon, when suddenly the entire building collapsed. NDRF and allied agencies of Delhi government can continue the rescue operation till late night.
