Elliot Anderson produced a tireless Man of the Match display against Coventry on Saturday and, in the process, established a new Premier League record.
The England international completed 146 passes, the highest figure by an English player in a Premier League match since Opta started collecting the data in 2003/04.
That took him beyond Jordan Henderson’s previous marks of 144 against West Brom in 2020 and 140 against Bournemouth in 2019, as well as Paul Scholes and Michael Carrick, who each registered 135 against Spurs and Crystal Palace respectively.
The numbers underlined Anderson’s importance in City’s hard-fought win, secured by Erling Haaland’s headed goal midway through the first half.
He also recorded far more touches than any other player on the pitch, finishing with 178 in total.
Without the ball too, Anderson played a major role in City’s defending, covering significant ground across the contest, with only Coventry’s Matt Grimes running farther than his 11.3 kilometres over the 90 minutes.
