Finally, the farmers of Punjab, who were protesting by setting up a concrete front on the Chandigarh-Mohali border for the last seven days, ended their protest on Monday. The farmers' protest has ended after the agreement with the Punjab government. The Bhagwant Mann government of the state has agreed in writing to the demands of the farmers.
The Punjab government has also assured the protesting farmers that a special session of the state assembly will be called soon and their issues will be discussed.
Farmers' demand regarding river water
Farmers belonging to different unions of the United Kisan Morcha had participated in this demonstration. Among the demands of the farmers that the Mann government has accepted, the most prominent demands are issues to river water, farming and farmers. These issues will be discussed in the special session.
Farmers had staged a front on Chandigarh border on 1 September. Farmers from 32 groups were gathered here. Women and children were also standing at the front. Seven days of Pakka Morcha were completed on Monday.
Agreement reached on issues between farmers and government
In the assurance given to the farmers, the government has also agreed to review the existing water agreements and bring a resolution in the Assembly against the provisions of the Punjab Re-Organization Act to sharing of river water. In the meeting held with Punjab Agriculture Minister Gurmeet Singh Khudian, a consensus was reached on the issues between the farmers and the government.
