Dhaka. The Bangladesh High Court on Sunday granted bail to jailed Hindu rights leader Chinmoy Krishna Das in two more cases, but Das, who is facing charges in other cases, is unlikely to come out of jail. Local media gave this information. Das had also got bail last month in two cases, which included charges of sabotage, assault and obstruction of government work.
Das was arrested on sedition charges in November 2024. He was accused of allegedly insulting the national flag, following which protests and communal tension had erupted. Subsequently, several other cases were registered against him, including charges of murder, attempt to murder and sabotage.

Justice K.M. A bench of Justices Zahid Sarwar and Sheikh Abu Taher on Sunday granted him bail in two cases to vandalism and obstructing police work. A news portal quoted his lawyer Apoorva Kumar Bhattacharya as saying that there are a total of six criminal cases against Das and he has now got bail from the High Court in four of these cases.
However, according to the report of 'The Business Standard' news portal, he will not be released immediately due to other cases pending against him. His bail is stayed in the treason case, while the murder case is being heard in the 'Speedy Trial Tribunal' in Chittagong. This murder case is to an incident in which government lawyer Saiful Islam Alif was murdered. Das was killed by people protesting against his arrest in the south-eastern port city of Chittagong.
At that time, India had expressed 'deep concern' over the arrest of the Hindu saint and asked Dhaka to ensure the safety of 'all minorities including Hindus'. The incident occurred at a time when India-Bangladesh relations had soured following the ouster of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina from power in August 2024 – leading to her taking refuge in New Delhi. Das, who was earlier associated with 'ISKCON', is the spokesperson of a group called 'Hindu Samisht Sanatan Jagran Jot'.
