It is the only fort in India, which has never been conquered on the battlefield by any king or empire in its centuries-long history. Everyone tried to conquer this fort, but all failed. Surrounded by the waves of the sea, this fort became immortal in the pages of history.

The history of construction of Murud Janjira Fort goes back to 15th century. The fort was initially built by local Koli fishermen using wooden and mud fences. The main purpose of building it was to protect ourselves from pirates. But, it was later captured by the Siddi generals of the Ahmadnagar Sultanate, after which a large and strong stone fort was built here.

The fort was built in a unique way to confuse the enemy forces. The main gate of Murud Janjira was built in such a way that it remained hidden within the walls of the fort. Enemies could not see this gate even from several kilometers away from the sea. By the time the enemy approached the fort, the soldiers in the fort could easily target the attackers.

Another feature of this fort is that despite being surrounded on all sides by the salt water of the Arabian Sea, there are two large and deep lakes inside the fort. Both these lakes have potable fresh water. Moreover, strong bastions were built for the defense of the fort, on which more than 500 guns were deployed. These guns could easily hit targets several kilometers away. The walls of the fort were almost 40 feet high, making it impossible for the enemies to attack.
