Bananas typically stay fresh for about two to six days at room temperature, depending on how ripe they are when bought. Once fully ripe, however, they can darken rapidly, while their texture and flavor may begin to deteriorate within a few days. Higher temperatures can accelerate the ripening process.
A simple kitchen hack may help extend their freshness, using just a small piece of tin foil, according to Express.

To use the method, tear off enough aluminium foil to cover the stem area and wrap it tightly around the crown of the bunch. For a potentially greater effect, the bananas can be separated and each stem wrapped individually.
The fruit should then be kept at room temperature, away from direct sunlight.
The method is based on the role of ethylene, a naturally occurring plant hormone that promotes ripening. Bananas release much of this gas through their stems, and covering the stems may help reduce its spread and slow the ripening process, delaying browning and extending freshness.
Plastic cling film can be used instead of aluminium foil and may provide a similar effect. Both materials are inexpensive and commonly available.
It is also advisable to store bananas separately from fruits that release large amounts of ethylene, including apples and avocados, as the gas can accelerate ripening, Business Today reported.
Another option is to hang bananas on a banana hook. Suspending the fruit helps keep it away from other produce and reduces bruising caused by resting directly on a countertop.
