Union Home Minister Amit Shah presided over the 28th meeting of Western Zonal Council in Goa’s capital Panaji on Monday. Addressing the meeting, Shah said that there is no dispute between the Western Zonal Council states. Describing this as a major achievement, he said that zonal councils have now become an effective means of monitoring the implementation of public welfare schemes instead of resolving disputes.
Amit Shah said that India recorded a growth rate of 7.8 percent in the first quarter of the financial year 2026-27. This growth of the Indian economy is a matter of pride amidst the ongoing global economic and political upheaval. He added that the role of the western region is important in this achievement.
He said that the three states of Daman and Diu, Dadra and Nagar Haveli and Western Regional Council have contributed significantly to the country’s growth rate of 7.8 percent. He called the western region “the western engine of the country’s economic development”. Explaining WEST, he said the W stands for wealth and money generated by the region. E stands for exports and ports, S stands for startups and semiconductors, and T stands for tourism and blue economy. He said that the western region has a significant share in all these sectors.
