Former Tottenham Hotspur goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario has given a frank insight into the fractured dressing room he was part of at Spurs.

The former Tottenham Hotspur goalkeeper has spoken about his summer move to Juventus and also admitted that the dressing room was “not aligned” last season.

The 29-year-old Italian spent three seasons in North London after joining from Empoli in 2023. During his time at the club, Vicario made himself Tottenham’s first-choice goalkeeper, playing 81 matches in all competitions.

But his overall consistency was not enough to protect the side from a dreadful 2025/26 campaign. Tottenham suffered one of the most damaging seasons in their recent history, ending up 17th in the Premier League and only just avoiding relegation to the Championship.

As part of a major summer overhaul designed to reset the culture, Vicario was permitted to return to Serie A by head coach Roberto De Zerbi, who had decided not to use the goalkeeper during the closing stages of the 2025/26 season.

Speaking to Sky Italia, the goalkeeper expressed his appreciation for De Zerbi and said the manager was transparent when the chance to join Juventus emerged.

“I thank him, I did it personally the day I signed with Juventus,” Vicario said. “With me he was a real person, direct and above all a man of his word. He gave me the opportunity to take this step that I had in mind, he supported me and I will always be grateful to him.”

Although Vicario made it clear he held no resentment towards De Zerbi, his remarks about the wider team environment offered an indication of the deeper problems that damaged Tottenham’s league season.

Rumours of divisions within the squad, cliques and conflicting agendas had persisted throughout their battle to stay up, and the goalkeeper’s reflection effectively confirms that important figures inside the club were moving in different directions.

Without going into specifics, Vicario acknowledged the dysfunction, saying: “There have been some dynamics that have not aligned, probably for several reasons that make no sense to mention now.”

Vicario’s exit was part of a wider summer clear-out under De Zerbi, who moved decisively to break up a squad that had proved unfit for purpose last term. As Vicario begins a new chapter in Turin, Tottenham are left with a major rebuilding job, especially after their start to the new league season, with the club sitting third from bottom in the Premier League after three matches.
