Real Madrid striker Kylian Mbappe believes he is the best player in the world and is hopeful of winning the Ballon d'Or this year.

Mbappe is regarded as one of the leading contenders for the 2026 Ballon d'Or after a record-breaking summer.

The 27-year-old became the World Cup’s all-time top scorer during the 2026 tournament, netting 10 goals as France finished fourth in North America. In doing so, Mbappe also became the first footballer in history to win the World Cup Golden Boot more than once.

At club level, Mbappe scored 42 goals in 44 matches for Real Madrid to claim a second straight Pichichi Trophy, although he ended the campaign without winning any silverware.

Even so, Mbappe feels he deserves to be in the running for the Ballon d'Or.

"I think when you play for Real Madrid, the best club in the world, people associate you with this award," he said.

"There are many people who speak about me and the Ballon d'Or. Of course, I’ve made history in the most important competition. Maybe it’s a good year for this, but people can vote according to what they think."

He added: "I always think I’m the best [player in the world], but everyone has their own opinion.

"Maybe people think in different ways. I don’t think it’s a discussion we need to have.

"Of course, this year could be good for me to win the Ballon d'Or. But journalists vote."
