Ousmane Dembele, the current Ballon d'Or holder, has said he expects the prize to be won once again by a Paris Saint-Germain player.
Dembele collected the award last September after a season in which PSG won the UEFA Champions League, Ligue 1, the Coupe de France and the Trophee des Champions, while also reaching the final of the FIFA Club World Cup. Last season, the Paris club defended their UEFA Champions League title and, speaking to L'Equipe, Dembele said he believes one of his teammates will take the award this time.
"I think that the Ballon d'Or will stay in the hands of a PSG player," he told L'Equipe. The France international then named his top three contenders for the honour as Khvicha Kvaratskhelia, Harry Kane and Kylian Mbappe. Dembele added that he would not place himself in that top three. "Is that just because you're humble?" he was asked. "Yeah, that's it." When specifically asked whether Lionel Messi is part of the discussion, he said no, instead repeating his original top three and also mentioning Michael Olise, Lamine Yamal, Fabian Ruiz and Willian Pacho.
