The impact of heavy rains and floods in Nepal is now emerging as a new threat in the border areas of Bihar. With the strong flow of Gandak River, some very strange, 'unknown' and unusually giant fishes have flowed from Nepal to Bihar. There have been reports of many people falling ill (vomiting, diarrhea and stomach pain) after eating these fish. Seeing the seriousness of the situation, the Dairy, Fisheries and Animal Resources Department of Bihar Government and the local administration have issued a strict advisory and strongly appealed to the people to avoid catching, selling, buying and eating these unknown fish.

According to the information received, these days fish ranging from 10 kg to 90 kg are being found on the banks of river Gandak in West Champaran (especially Bagaha and Valmikinagar) and Gopalganj districts. Greeded with the greed of big fishes, people are crowding the river bank and catching them and taking them home. However, the department has warned that the flood waters carry with them the filth of dead animals, sewage and decaying matter. Unknown fish that have come through such a contaminated area can be infected with dangerous bacteria, viruses and fungi. The administration says that people should not be lured by the size or weight, because there is no guarantee that it is safe. Bagaha's SDM Chandni Kumari has given clear instructions that information about such suspicious fish should be immediately given to the District Fisheries Officer or the local administration.

It is worth noting that for generations in Bihar, many types of political statements have been made regarding the finding of fish during floods. In the year 2004, Lalu Yadav had also said about this that floods make the fishes of the pond of the rich available to everyone for some time, which was presented like a 'feast'. But this government directive of 2026 has completely rejected this romantic view and made it clear that this is not a feast, but a potentially big threat to public health.
