Film maker Boots Riley has taken to social media to call out Delta Airlines over unauthorized edits to his latest comedy movie, I Love Boosters. The film, which was directed by Riley, was made available for the airline’s in-flight entertainment. However, the director learned that the airline chose to delete entire sequences rather than apply basic visual blurs as originally negotiated.

On X, Riley wrote“Delta Airlines is currently airing a version of I Love Boosters where they deleted scenes against my wishes. We agreed to some blurring, but then they just did whatever they wanted. Found out via Letterboxd. They claim they can’t remove or fix it till October. Don’t watch that version.”

The news of the unauthorized cut scene reached the director when a reviewer posted a comment on Letterboxd. The reviewer commented on the deleted scene by Delta Airlines, adding, “You can’t just cut out the funniest scene in the movie.” To which Riley replied, “Wait, they cut the scene out, or did they just blur it?”

According to Riley, the airlines agreed to blur out explicit scenes on their in-flight entertainment. However, instead of blurring it, they cut a crucial scene from the movie without consulting the director.

The scene they trimmed features Lakeith Stanfield as an incubus-like, soul-eating demon who sucks out the souls of his partners during sexual acts. The revelation of this scene marks a major plot twist in the movie. Delta Airlines’ cut removes this crucial moment from the movie, thereby sparking outrage from the director.

I Love Boosters was released on May 22, 2026. It is a comedy sci-fi movie that follows a group of shoplifters who take aim at a cutthroat fashion maven by stealing her clothes and reselling them at a lower price, what they call “fashion-forward philanthropy.” However, as they embark on their mission, they enter an increasingly surreal and bizarre narrative.

Apart from Stanfield, the comedy also stars Keke Palmer, Naomi Ackie, Taylour Paige, Rachel Walters, Demi Moore, and Adam Devine.
