Uttarakhand News: The Election Commission has taken a big step towards making the upcoming elections and democratic process completely transparent in Uttarakhand. The exercise to make the voter list completely error-free and transparent in the state has now reached its final stage. In this connection, a high-level meeting was organized with representatives of recognized political parties in the capital on Tuesday. This meeting was presided over by Chief Electoral Officer Dr. B.V.R.C. Purushottam did it. The main objective of the meeting was to share the progress of the Special Intensive Revision Program of Voter List and discuss with all parties on the future steps. During this, the Chief Electoral Officer assured all the parties that the name of any eligible citizen will not be left out of the list and no ineligible or fake voter will get a place in the list.

New date fixed for final publication of voter list

During the meeting, the Chief Electoral Officer shared an important information and said that the Election Commission of India has extended the deadline for the final publication of the voter list in Uttarakhand. According to the new guidelines of the Commission, now the revised and final voter list in the state will be published on October 3, 2026. Earlier this work was to be done within the stipulated time limit, but due to the seriousness of the review work and to investigate each claim in depth, the time limit has been extended. This will provide sufficient time to the electoral system to resolve every complaint and objection. All political parties have welcomed this decision of the Commission and have expressed hope that with additional time the list will be completely clean.

Record of speedy hearing on lakhs of notices

Detailed data regarding discrepancies revealed during the revision campaign was also presented in the meeting. Officials said that notices were issued to a total of 24 lakh 30 thousand voters across the state for various reasons. The result of the promptness of the administration was that out of these, hearing on more than 24 lakh 29 thousand notices has been completed duly. The disposal of very few remaining cases will also be completed very soon. Officials clarified that the purpose of sending the notice was not to strike off anyone's name, but to ensure whether the person concerned was actually living at the same address or not. In this process, the voters' side has been heard with full seriousness so that the voting rights of any genuine citizen are not affected.

Speed ​​in disposal of claims and objections

Work is also going on at a rapid pace on various forms received by the election office to correct the voter list. In the meeting, the representatives were informed that Form 6 is to be filled for adding new names, Form 7 for deleting names and Form 8 for amending any entry. Of the total claims and objections received through these three forms, hearing of more than 40 percent cases has been completed. The concerned election registration officers are also working rapidly on the remaining applications. The Chief Electoral Officer appealed to the political parties to ensure through their booth level agents that no new youth is left out from being included in the voter list.

Modern technology to prevent fake and double votes

Many times complaints are received about the name of the same person being registered at two different places in the voter list. For a permanent solution to this problem, modern technology is being used in the state. It was told in the meeting that the Election Commission is going to implement Demographic Similar Entry and Photo Similar Entry module with full force in the state very soon. With the help of this modern software system, those names and photographs which are registered at more than one polling station will be immediately identified. If a voter's name or face matches in more than one entry, the system will immediately identify him. A notice will be issued to such voters by the department. After receiving the notice, the voter will be given sufficient time of 15 days to explain his position and file the reply. If no satisfactory response is received within the stipulated time, then only action will be taken as per rules.

Representatives of all parties gave suggestions in the meeting

Senior officials of the Election Department as well as authorized representatives of all major political parties were present in this important meeting. Additional Chief Electoral Officer Dr. Vijay Kumar Jogdande, Deputy Chief Electoral Officer Kishan Singh Negi and Assistant Chief Electoral Officer Mastu Das were mainly present in the meeting. On behalf of political parties, Rajkumar Purohit and Advocate Satendra Jain from Bharatiya Janata Party participated. Manoj Rawat presented his views on behalf of Indian National Congress. Bahujan Samaj Party was represented by Satendra, Satendra Chopra and Bhimrao. Shyam Babu Pandey from Aam Aadmi Party and Anant Akash from CPI(M) attended the meeting. Leaders of all the parties gave their necessary suggestions to make the voter list transparent, on which the election officials assured to implement it seriously.
