Barcelona sporting director Deco has turned to social media to make his feelings clear after two key members of Hansi Flick’s squad were left out of this year’s Ballon d’Or shortlist.
The Ballon d’Or discussion has, unsurprisingly, become a major talking point in the Catalan capital through the evening.
When France Football revealed the 30-man shortlist for the 2026 award, three Barcelona stars were included — Lamine Yamal, Rodri and Pau Cubarsi.
However, it was the Barcelona players who did not make the cut that quickly triggered criticism. In spite of completing a La Liga and World Cup double, Pedri was not included among the nominees.
Raphinha was also left out, despite being one of the standout attacking performers anywhere in Europe during the opening weeks of the new season.
As mentioned above, the development has clearly not been received well behind the scenes at Spotify Camp Nou. Responding in the comments section of an Instagram post announcing this year’s Ballon d’Or nominees, Barca director Deco posted a string of laughing emojis.
