Delhi Former Chief Secretary Death: 74-year-old Rakesh Mehta, former Delhi Chief Secretary and 1975-batch ex-IAS officer, allegedly committed suicide at his residence in Sector 82, Noida on September 6. At the time of the incident, his wife Sumanti Mehta had gone to visit her son in Dehradun. When Patik did not pick up the phone continuously, they suspected some evil, after which they informed the police.
Suicide note found: Suffered from mental and physical illness
As soon as the information was received, the team of Phase-2 police station and the forensic team reached the spot. As the door of the flat was locked from inside, the police broke the door and entered, where his body was found hanging with a fan. Police have also seized a suicide note from the spot. The note mentions that the former chief secretary took this final step due to mental and health problems.
Sheila was the Chief Secretary during Dixit’s tenure
Rakesh Mehta was the Chief Secretary of Delhi for more than three years during the tenure of former Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dixit. He assumed this post in 2007 and retired in November 2010.

Major Projects: He is also credited with successfully implementing several important projects to transport, electricity and civic infrastructure in Delhi.
His last rites were performed at the Lodhi Road crematorium in Delhi on Monday. Police are currently probing all aspects behind the suicide.
