Millions of passenger vehicles are sold every year in India. These include cars from different segments like hatchback, SUV and MPV. August 2026 also saw a good increase in the sales of many cars. According to sales data, Tata and Maruti Suzuki models were included in the list of top-5 best selling cars. The special thing is that four cars of Maruti Suzuki have made it to this list, while Tata Punch remained at number one.

Tata Punch was at number one
Tata Motors’ compact SUV Tata Punch was the best selling car in August. A total of 21,320 units of both petrol and electric versions of Punch were sold.

During the same period in August 2025, 10,704 units of Punch were sold. In this way, a significant increase has been recorded in its sales as compared to last year.

Maruti WagonR at second place
Maruti Suzuki WagonR stood second in the list of best selling cars. In August 2026, the company sold 20,180 units.

14,552 units of WagonR were sold in August 2025. This year its sales have seen a good increase compared to last year.

Maruti Swift remained at third place
Maruti Suzuki’s popular hatchback Swift took the third position in this list. It sold 19,832 units in August 2026.

At the same time, in August 2025, the company had sold 12,385 units of Swift. It is clear from this that there has been a strong increase in the demand for Swift this year as compared to last year.

Maruti Franks at number four
Maruti Suzuki Fronx, popular in the compact SUV segment, stood fourth in the top-5. It sold 18,730 units in August 2026.

In August 2025, 12,422 units of the French were sold. That means, a good increase in its sales has also been recorded in one year.

Maruti Ertiga also included in top-5
Maruti Suzuki’s popular MPV Ertiga has also made it to the top-5. In August 2026, the company sold 18,516 units.

18,445 units of Ertiga were sold in August 2025. That means this time its sales remained almost at the same level as last year.

Maruti’s dominance in top-5
In the list of top-5 best selling cars of August 2026, except Tata Punch, the remaining four models were from Maruti Suzuki. From this, the strong demand for different segment models of Maruti in the Indian car market can be estimated.
