Washington: The conflict between the United States and Iran has entered a new and dangerous phase after Washington claimed it destroyed five Iranian crude oil tankers following alleged attacks on US naval assets.
According to the US Central Command (CENTCOM), Iranian forces attempted to target a US Navy warship with ballistic missiles twice in recent days. The US military said the warship successfully avoided the attacks and no American casualties were reported.
Following the alleged missile strikes, US forces targeted Iranian oil carriers operating in the Gulf of Oman and near Kharg Island.

In retaliation, Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) claimed a missile attack on the US Al-Azraq air base in Jordan.
Iranian state media reported that the operation damaged military infrastructure, including aircraft support facilities and deployment areas. However, Jordan's military said it intercepted 18 missiles launched toward its territory.
The latest exchange has further increased fears of a wider regional conflict involving Gulf nations.
Tehran warns oil tankers near Kuwait and Bahrain
Amid rising tensions, Iran's Revolutionary Guard Navy issued warnings to oil tanker crews operating near ports in Kuwait and Bahrain.
Iran accused these countries of supporting US military operations by allowing American forces to use bases on their territory. Tehran warned that vessels in the region could become targets amid continued attacks.
US warns Iran of further retaliation
US officials claimed that Iranian oil tankers were linked to financial networks supporting the IRGC and allied groups.
US Secretary of State Marco Rubio warned that further attempts by Iran to attack American naval forces would lead to additional strikes against Iranian economic assets.
The confrontation comes as both countries remain locked in a prolonged military standoff, with the Strait of Hormuz becoming a key flashpoint for global energy security.
