New Delhi:The multi-storey PG building accident that took place on September 6 in Satya Niketan, a major student center of South Delhi, has shocked the entire capital. After this tragic incident that took the lives of seven people, both Delhi Police and Delhi Municipal Corporation (MCD) are seen to be strict and in action mode. On one hand, the police is making arrests linking the links of administrative negligence and illegal construction, while on the other hand, MCD has launched a major demolition drive against dangerous and illegal buildings in different areas of the capital.

5th arrest in the case

Delhi Police engaged in the investigation of the accident has got another major success. Making the fifth arrest in this case, the police have detained labor contractor Sanoj from Kasganj, Uttar Pradesh.
Sanoj is being brought to Delhi and thoroughly interrogated. Before this, the police has also arrested PG operator Sudhanshu.

Labor contractor caught from Kasganj

According to information received from police sources, the landlord's son Mahesh, who is on police remand, has revealed that this building was given on lease to two business partners Shubham Tyagi and Sudhanshu in August 2025. Together, both of them were running this multi-storey building as a PG named 'Hostel Daze'. At present, the second partner Shubham Tyagi is still out of the reach of the police and continuous raids are being conducted at possible places in search of him.

Immediately after the accident, the police took action and arrested the registered owner of the building, Urmila, her husband Hariram and son Mahesh. Investigation has revealed that the upper floors of this old building were erected illegally without any reinforcement and the work on the basement and ground floor was being carried out continuously disregarding the safety standards.

Start of demolition of the building

MCD has also declared the second multi-storey building adjacent to house number 13 of Satya Niketan, where this accident took place, unsafe. The work of demolishing it in a phased manner has been started under the supervision of experts. To prevent the building from suddenly collapsing, strong iron supports have been installed all around and first the upper floor is being demolished with the help of hammers and cutters. A PG for girl students used to run in this building, but immediately after the accident on September 6, it was completely vacated as a precautionary measure. Just before the demolition, the students were allowed to take out their remaining belongings, after which the corporation teams took charge.

1,100 pg survey, hammer used on 24 premises

Within the last two days, MCD teams have conducted a vigorous survey campaign in all the 12 zones of entire Delhi. During this period, around 1,100 PG properties were inspected, in which more than 20,000 students are living. 24 properties violating the standards have so far been demolished by using bulldozers, while new orders have been given to demolish 27 other properties. Apart from this, 7 properties were sealed on the spot for ignoring security rules and show cause notices have been issued to more than 35 landlords. The administration clearly says that any illegal PG operator or landlord who plays with the lives of students will not be spared.
