The demand to change the name of Bakhtiyarpur, the birthplace of former Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, has once again come to the fore. According to him, renaming Bakhtiyarpur as 'Nitishpur' will not be limited to just changing the name, but it will give respect to the pride of that area and the sentiments associated with it.

Santosh Suman said that the land which gave Bihar a public leader like Nitish Kumar, should also be recognized by his name. With this thought in mind he presented the matter in front of Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary. Proposal to rename Bakhtiyarpur as 'Nitishpur' Is kept.

This demand has come up at a time when controversies regarding name change have already been seen in Bihar politics. Earlier in May this year, the demand for changing the name of Bakhtiyarpur was also raised by All India Freedom Fighters Organization and its successor organization.

At that time Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) had opposed this demand. RJD had alleged that The government led by Samrat Chaudhary is gradually trying to destroy the identity and legacy associated with Nitish Kumar.. The party had claimed that after changing the name of Sitamarhi Government Medical College and Biological Park, now preparations are being made to change the name of Nitish Kumar's birthplace Bakhtiyarpur.
