Lg Smart Tv Security Vulnerability : A new investigation into LG smart TVs reveals serious privacy and security concerns. According to researchers, some LG TVs at home Wi-Fi Can identify information about other devices connected to the network. The investigation also showed that the microphones of TVs compromised by the security flaw could record audio even when the screen was off or in standby. However, this does not mean that every LG TV is recording people’s conversations while they are off.
Gamers Nexus, LevelOneTechs and independent security researchers have made a startling claim. According to researchers, many LG TV models can recognize phones, computers, printers and smart home devices connected to the same home Wi-Fi network. According to the report, the TV can also collect information about other nearby Wi-Fi networks, such as their names and signal strengths. This information, combined with ACR (Automated Content Recognition), ad ID and viewing habits, can create a picture of the devices used and the content viewed in the home.
Can it be heard even when the TV is off?
The investigation did not claim that LG TVs were listening to users in general. However, the researchers pointed out a security vulnerability on compromised TVs that could allow audio to be captured from the microphone even when the screen is off or in standby. Audio can be stored on the TV even when there is no internet connection and can be retrieved when the connection is restored. The researchers also informed LG about a remote code execution vulnerability.
ACR and advertising issues
A major part of the investigation focused on the ACR facility. This technology can identify programs, advertisements and other content that are playing on TV. According to the investigation, LG may use this viewing information along with advertising ID, connected device information and network information. The researchers also examined LG’s advertising business and the use of data collected from connected TV homes to deliver ads to people across devices. LG TV users can disable unnecessary features such as ACR, viewing data storage, personalized advertising and voice recognition.
What should users do?
Note that this issue is not limited to LG TVs. For smart TV users, this may be a privacy concern. In such cases, be sure to install any firmware and security updates available on your TV and carefully review your privacy settings. Users can disable features such as ACR, view data collection, personalized advertising and voice recognition.
