LPG Cylinder Booking: There is significant news for customers using domestic LPG cylinders. The government has revised the rules regarding LPG cylinder re-booking. Customers in both urban and rural areas will now be able to book a new cylinder after a gap of 25 days. On Monday, September 7, 2026, the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas directed state-run oil companies—Indian Oil, Bharat Petroleum, and Hindustan Petroleum—to implement this rule uniformly across the country. The new rule has come into effect immediately.

Notably, pressure on LPG supplies had mounted following the outbreak of conflict in West Asia in February 2026. During that period, the government had mandated a minimum gap between bookings to manage the demand for gas cylinders. At that time, the rule stipulated a 25-day gap for urban customers and a 45-day gap for rural customers before they could re-book an LPG cylinder. This measure had been implemented as a temporary arrangement.

According to the Ministry, the LPG supply situation has improved compared to earlier, and the booking backlog has also reduced significantly. In light of this, the government has decided to eliminate the disparity between urban and rural customers. Now, the booking interval for all domestic LPG customers across the country will be 25 days. This means customers in rural areas will no longer have to wait for 45 days.
