A matter regarding job interview is becoming widely discussed on social media. Manthan, a graduate student, claimed that merely because he requested to change the timing of the final interview, the company excluded him from the job process. The student has also shared screenshots of the conversation he had with the company’s founder on social media platform X.
There was a demand to advance only 30 minutes
According to Manthan, the founder of the company contacted him at around 1:30 pm and called him for the final interview at 2 pm the same day. It was not possible for him to be available at such short notice.
In such a situation, Manthan requested to postpone the interview by about half an hour, but according to him, instead of giving another time, the company ended his hiring process.
The company expressed different expectations
In the chat screenshot shared by Manthan, the company reportedly said that the startup is expanding rapidly and it needs employees who give utmost priority to this job.
The message also indicated that if a candidate has other responsibilities or is not immediately available, the company may not want to proceed with his/her application. A debate started on social media regarding whether it is fair to expect a candidate to change his entire schedule at such short notice in order to get a job.
People’s opinion divided on social media
After Manthan’s post surfaced, many users raised questions on the attitude of the company. Some people said that calling for the final interview less than an hour in advance was in itself impractical.
Some users also said that this incident gave Manthan a glimpse of the company’s work culture. According to him, not getting a job in such a place might be an advantage for the candidate rather than a disadvantage.
At the same time, some people criticized the mindset of startup founders in which employees are expected to be readily available all the time. This matter has once again sparked debate about Gen-Z and companies’ work culture, work-life balance and employee availability.
