Luang Prabang. Vantara has launched a new program in Laos in collaboration with 'Mandalay Elephant Conservation' to treat sick and injured elephants. Under this, a Rapid Response team has been formed for the elephants and Vantara has provided a fully equipped mobile veterinary unit. Along with this, a special hospital will also be built for elephants requiring serious and long treatment.

Let us tell you that at present there are about 400 wild and more than 400 domesticated elephants in Laos and the number of both is continuously decreasing. Under this program, work will be done on the treatment and conservation of both wild and supervised elephants. During the same operation, 43 year old elephant 'Mae Khamnoi' was also rescued. After being used for timber transportation for years, it was also used for tourists. Now he has been kept at a safe place in Mandalao, where he will be given necessary treatment along with care. This elephant, who worked in difficult conditions for a long time, now has great hope of getting a safer and better phase of her life. This initiative is considered an important step towards the conservation and welfare of elephants in Laos.
