New Delhi. Former Union Minister and MP from Hamirpur parliamentary constituency of Himachal Pradesh Anurag Singh Thakur has once again been honored with the Sansad Ratna Award. The Parliamentary Standing Committee on Coal, Mines and Steel headed by Anurag Singh Thakur has been awarded the prestigious Sansad Ratna Award 2026. Specially recognized in the “Top Original Reports Submitted” category at the 16th edition of the awards held at the Dr. Ambedkar International Center on Wednesday, the Committee is one of only four Parliamentary Committees from both Houses of Parliament to have been selected for this premier national honor this year.
Highlighting the significance of this honour, the organizers said that the Sansad Ratna Award holds a unique place in the Indian democracy as a non-governmental initiative. Inspired by the vision of former President Dr APJ Abdul Kalam, the award evaluates parliamentary performance objectively and transparently, entirely from the civil society perspective. Accepting this honour, Anurag Singh Thakur expressed his heartfelt gratitude towards the jury members and Prime Point Foundation. Dedicating the award to his fellow Committee members and officials and staff of the Committee Secretariat, Anurag Thakur said that this honor reflects their collective coordination, rigorous research, and strong commitment to strengthening bipartisan legislative oversight.
It is noteworthy that under the leadership of Anurag Singh Thakur, the Committee on Coal, Mines and Steel has demonstrated extraordinary productivity, convening 64 meetings and submitting 29 comprehensive reports since June 2024. Anurag Singh Thakur’s leadership of the committee is based on his extensive administrative experience gained as a Union Minister overseeing key ministries during his five-year tenure. Apart from heading the Coal, Mines and Steel panel, his current parliamentary responsibilities include serving on the Public Accounts Committee and the Consultative Committee on the Ministry of Power. Additionally, he is also contributing to important legislative bodies including the Joint Parliamentary Committee on ‘One Nation One Election’, the JPC on the 130th Constitutional Amendment Bill and the JPC on the Developed India Education Foundation.
