The 2027 Champions League Final will take place in Europe — but exactly where?

The Champions League campaign is now in progress, with all 36 teams in the league phase due to feature in a dedicated European matchweek.

Manchester United are set to host Azerbaijani champions Sabah FK in their first-ever Champions League match on Thursday, while five other fixtures will also be played, with no Europa League or Conference League matches on the schedule.

For travelling fans hoping to watch their club reach the 2027 Champions League final, the confirmed venue in Spain is likely to come as very welcome news.

In the end, two teams will come through from the league phase to contest the 2027 Champions League Final, which is scheduled to be staged in Madrid at the Estadio Metropolitano.

The final will be played on June 5, 2027, with last season’s finalists Paris Saint-Germain and Arsenal both aiming to return.

Luis Enrique’s side, who won the Champions League for the second time in two years, are now chasing a historic third straight European title.

Arsenal, meanwhile, were beaten by Paris Saint-Germain on penalties after having lifted the Premier League trophy only weeks earlier, and they will be looking to end their Champions League hoodoo this season, having never previously won the competition.

That final was held in Hungary at the Puskas Arena. The previous year, Paris Saint-Germain went to Munich and claimed their first-ever Champions League title at the Allianz Arena.

Hungary had also submitted a bid to host the 2027 final, but instead was chosen to stage the 2026 showpiece.

Italy, too, was in contention for 2027 during the initial bidding process, but San Siro was later judged unable to host the match because of refurbishment work in Milan.

In the second bidding round, Spain emerged successful, though it faced competition from a possible host nation that many European supporters would probably have considered less accessible.

That country was Azerbaijan, whose league champions are making their debut in the competition this season, and which had proposed the Olympic Stadium in Baku as the venue.

In the end, the Estadio Metropolitano got the nod, with the Spanish venue for the final officially confirmed in September 2025.
