Lucknow. An important initiative has been taken in the direction of effective, fair and timely redressal of the complaints of students in Khwaja Moinuddin Chishti Bhasha University, Lucknow. As per the decision taken in the Executive Council meeting of the University, retired Professor and former Dean-Student Welfare Prof. V.K. Sharma has been named the new ombudsman of the university. This appointment was made by Honorable Vice Chancellor Prof. in accordance with the provisions of University Grants Commission (UGC) regarding student grievance redressal. It is done by Ajay Taneja.
According to the provisions of UGC, Lokpal plays an important role in the grievance redressal system of students. If a student's complaint is not resolved at the level of the Student Grievance Redressal Committee (SGRC) of the University, the student can appeal to the Ombudsman under the prescribed procedure. The Ombudsman can give appropriate decision after hearing both the parties in the concerned case and can pass orders regarding providing appropriate relief to resolve the complaint of the student. There is also a provision in the UGC rules to try to resolve the appeals received from the Lokpal within approximately 30 days.
The appointment of the Ombudsman will provide an independent and effective forum for students to resolve their complaints to their academic and university activities. This is expected to further strengthen transparency, accountability and student-centric administration in the university.
Vice Chancellor Prof. Ajay Taneja said that fair and timely solution to the problems of students is among the priorities of the university administration. He said that effective grievance redressal system will play an important role in strengthening the confidence of the students as well as in improving the academic environment of the university. He expressed confidence that with the experience and guidance of the new Ombudsman, the process of resolving students' complaints will be made more effective.
The university administration has appealed to the students to follow the prescribed grievance redressal procedure to resolve any complaint. The appointment of the new Ombudsman is being considered an important step towards good governance, transparency and giving priority to student interests in the university.
