Actor-turned-politician Vijay Kumar’s TVK party-led coalition in Tamil Nadu has finally got a new name. After a meeting in Chennai, the alliance was named “Secular Social Justice Victory Alliance”. This alliance includes TVK, Congress, VCK, MDMK and Indian Union Muslim League (IUML).

An important meeting to decide the name of the alliance was held at the TVK headquarters in Panyur, Chennai on Wednesday. The meeting was attended by the main leaders of Congress, VCK, MDMK and IUML. The coalition’s future strategy and electoral coordination were also discussed.

The Congress party was represented by Manikam Tagore, Tharagai Cuthbert and Praveen Chakraborty. VCK was represented by party chief Thol Thirumavalavan, Vanni Arasu, Ravi Kumar and Sinthanai Selvan. MDMK chiefs Vaiko and Durai Vaiko participated, while IUML was represented by K.M. Kader Moideen and Shah Jahan. The coalition’s inclusion of words like “secular” and “social justice” in its name also hints at its political agenda. The term “Vijay Gathbandhan” highlights the goals of TVK chief Vijay’s leadership and electoral victory.

This alliance is considered important by TVK in Tamil Nadu politics. The alliance with Congress, VCK, MDMK and IUML is seen as an attempt by TVK to strengthen its base in state politics.

The Communist Party of India (Marxist) (CPM) and the Communist Party of India (CPI) decided not to attend the meeting held at the TVK headquarters here. The CPI(M) has already made it clear that its support to the TVK government is issue-based and extrinsic. The party has no representation in the state cabinet.
