A 47-year-old government school teacher from Khordha district has left behind an inspiring legacy of selflessness by giving three individuals a new lease on life through organ donation following his death.
Pratap Kumar Rout, a senior teacher at Kumarabasta High School and resident of Dhansar village under the Banki sub-division, suffered a sudden brain stroke after returning home from school on Teachers’ Day. He was initially rushed to Banki and later transferred to AIIMS, before being admitted to a private hospital where he passed away after three days of intensive care.
In the face of devastating grief, Rout’s family consented to donate his liver and both eyes. His noble gesture successfully saved three patients awaiting transplants.
”His commitment to serving others extended beyond the classroom,” noted a local representative, reflecting the deep admiration expressed by community members and social workers across the district.
Rout, survived by his wife and two sons, will be laid to rest in his ancestral village. To honor his posthumous act of organ donation, authorities arranged a formal Guard of Honour at the hospital prior to his final journey.
