Chelsea came from two goals behind to claim a dramatic 6-3 win over Leeds in the Carabao Cup third round at Stamford Bridge. Eight of the nine goals in the match arrived in a wildly chaotic second half.

The Blues made nine alterations from Sunday’s defeat to Arsenal and were behind early in the game. Strikes from Tarik Muharemovic and Brenden Aaronson handed the visitors an unexpected 2-0 advantage soon after the restart.

But the home side hit back in devastating fashion, scoring four goals in the space of just 12 minutes. What had looked like a possible upset quickly became a commanding victory for the London club.

Half-time substitutions transform game at Stamford Bridge

Head coach Xabi Alonso completely changed the course of the tie by introducing four substitutes at the break. Palmer was the standout among those introduced, instantly giving the hosts greater drive and attacking thrust.

Palmer won a penalty and converted it before scoring the equaliser only two minutes later. Fellow substitute Pedro Neto completed a six-minute turnaround to send Chelsea 3-2 in front. Danny Welbeck then added the fourth soon after from an assist by Morgan Rogers.

Leeds tried to recover after their performance fell apart, with Dominic Calvert-Lewin pulling one back. However, Valentin Barco netted his first goal for Chelsea before Welbeck headed in his second during stoppage time.

Nine-goal thriller leaves Leeds in collapse

Leeds had begun with an impressive away display in the opening phase of the match. But despite that early promise, the visitors fell apart completely under sustained second-half pressure. Their defensive breakdown allowed Chelsea to seize full control of the game.

Rogers made a huge impact from the bench, providing three assists during the blitz. His creativity helped the Blues capitalise on Leeds’ sudden defensive collapse.

Blues book place in fourth-round draw

The win means Chelsea are the sixth side to secure their place in the fourth round of the Carabao Cup. They join Bournemouth, Crystal Palace, Bradford City, Sunderland and Newcastle, all of whom were victorious on Tuesday.

The remaining 10 third-round fixtures will be played next Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday. Teams around the country will compete for the last remaining places in the round of 16.

The fourth-round draw will be held next Wednesday night. It is scheduled to take place immediately after the end of Manchester United’s match against Brighton.
