Security and traffic arrangements have been ramped up in the capital for the 18th BRICS Summit. Amidst this, an update regarding school closures has been released. The government has decided that schools will remain closed on Friday, September 11, 2026. The BRICS Summit is scheduled to take place at Bharat Mandapam in New Delhi on September 12 and 13.

Given the presence of foreign dignitaries and high-profile leaders, traffic arrangements on several roads will be altered alongside heightened security measures. Consequently, the big question now is whether schools in other NCR cities—such as Noida, Ghaziabad, Gurugram, and Faridabad—will also remain closed alongside Delhi.

All Delhi Schools to Remain Closed on September 11

Schools in Delhi will observe a holiday on September 11. According to directives issued by the Directorate of Education, government, government-aided, and recognized private schools in Delhi will remain closed on this day. Offices falling under the Directorate of Education will also remain shut. This means students studying in Delhi will not have to attend school on Friday.

Decision Taken Due to the BRICS Summit

The BRICS Summit in Delhi is scheduled for September 12 and 13. Leaders from various nations will be present in the capital during this time. A large number of security personnel have been deployed to ensure their safety, and traffic diversions have been implemented on several routes. Reports indicate that approximately 25,000 security personnel have been deployed in Delhi. In such a scenario, the decision to keep schools closed could help minimize crowds and traffic congestion.

Will Schools Across the NCR Also Remain Closed?

The closure order for Delhi will not automatically apply to the entire NCR. Cities within the NCR—such as Noida, Greater Noida, Ghaziabad, Gurugram, and Faridabad—fall under the jurisdiction of different states and district administrations. Therefore, if schools are to remain closed in those areas, the respective state governments or district administrations will make that decision.

What should students in Noida and Ghaziabad do?

If a student attends school in Noida or Ghaziabad, they should not decide to skip school simply because Delhi has declared a holiday. So far, no uniform holiday order covering schools across the entire NCR—similar to the one in Delhi—has been issued in connection with the BRICS summit. Notably, schools in Noida were closed on September 9 due to a local event, but this should not be conflated with the BRICS-related holiday. Therefore, it is essential to check for the latest notice from your school or an order from the district administration.

Traffic in Delhi will also be affected from September 11 to 13.

Apart from school closures, traffic in Delhi is likely to be impacted between September 11 and 13. Security checks and traffic diversions will be in place on several key routes. Travelers heading to railway stations or the airport are advised to leave home a bit earlier than usual. The Delhi Traffic Police has recommended that commuters plan their journeys in advance and use the Metro if necessary.
