Ukadiche Modak Recipe: According to the Hindu calendar, this year the festival of Ganesh Chaturthi will be celebrated on 14 September. Devotees are busy preparing for the arrival of Ganpati Bappa. Ingredients for making Ukadiche Modak
- Grated fresh coconut – 2 cups
- Grated fine jaggery – 1 cup
- Nutmeg powder – 1/4 tsp
- Cardamom powder – 1/2 tsp
- Poppy seeds – 1 tsp
- Ghee- 1 tsp
- for outer covering
- Rice flour- 1.5 cups
Water- 1.5 cups - Milk- 2 tbsp
- Ghee- 1 tsp
- a pinch of salt

Step-by-step recipe
- First of all, heat some ghee in a pan and roast the poppy seeds lightly.
- Now add grated coconut and jaggery in the same pan, then cook it while stirring on low flame till the jaggery melts.
- Now mix cardamom and nutmeg powder and turn off the gas.
- Now add water, a little milk, a spoon of ghee and a pinch of salt in another vessel and boil it well.
- As soon as the water boils, slow down the flame, add rice flour to it and mix it while stirring continuously with a spoon.
- After this, turn off the gas and cover the vessel and leave it in steam for 2-3 minutes.
- Now take out this lukewarm flour in a big plate.
- Make small balls of the kneaded dough. Now press one dough ball with your fingers to make it thin from the edges and give it a shape like a small bowl.
- Now heat water in a steamer or idli making vessel and apply some ghee on its plate.
- Place all the modaks on the plate at a distance and sprinkle a little water over them.
- Cover the vessel and let it steam for 10 to 12 minutes on medium flame.
- Bappa’s favorite hot Ukdiche Modaks are ready.
