Pune/Cricket: Ex of Maharashtra Ranji Cricketer Anant Nana Dhamane (age 87, Res. Shivajinagar) recently passed away done His demise has left the Maharashtra cricket field in mourning. He is survived by his wife, son, daughter and son-in-law.

10 first-class matches and all-round performances

Anant Dhamane during the period 1959-60 to 1963-64 (Sports) represented the Ranji team of Maharashtra. He played 10 first-class matches in his career. He had created a distinct identity in cricket circles as an aggressive right-handed batsman and an effective medium pace bowler. His performances against strong and legendary teams like Mumbai, Gujarat and Saurashtra were particularly noteworthy.

Moin-ud-Daula Trophy under Ajit Wadekar

He represented the 'State Bank of India' (SBI) team in professional cricket. He participated in the prestigious 'Moin-ud-Daula Trophy' while playing under former Indian cricket captain Ajit Wadekar. Even after his retirement from State Bank of India in 1999, his love for cricket did not wane and he continued to be associated with the game. After retiring as a contributing player as a coach and selection committee member, Dhamane played a mentor role:

Selection Committee: As a member of the selection committee for the Under-15 and Under-19 teams of Maharashtra, he scouted many budding players.
