Dharm Desk – The festival of Ganesh Chaturthi is celebrated as the birthday of Lord Ganesha. According to the Hindu calendar, this festival starts from the Chaturthi of Shukla Paksha of Bhadrapada month. This year Ganesh Chaturthi will be celebrated on Monday, 14 September. With this, Ganeshotsav will begin and the festival will conclude with the immersion of Ganpati idols on the day of Anant Chaturdashi. Anant Chaturdashi is on Friday, 25 September.
During Ganesh Chaturthi, devotees install the idol of Ganpati Bappa in their homes. Apart from this, Lord Ganesha is also worshiped by decorating pandals in cities and localities. It is considered auspicious to keep some things in mind before installing the statue. Among these, important things are to the direction of Ganesha's trunk, the form of the idol, the presence of rodents and its colour.
Ganesha with left trunk is considered auspicious
While purchasing the idol of Ganesha for the home, special attention is paid to the direction of his trunk. According to Sanatan tradition, installing Ganesha with the trunk inclined towards the left is considered auspicious in the house. He is called Vammukhi Ganesha. Worshiping such Ganesha creates an atmosphere of happiness, peace and prosperity in the house.
Four arms give a special message
The four-armed idol of Ganesha is considered auspicious for worship. The objects in his hands have also been given symbolic significance. There is a loop in the upper left hand, which is considered a symbol of removing the bondages and obstacles of life. There is a curb in the upper right hand, which gives the message of control over the mind and desires. Modak is held in the lower left hand. It is considered a symbol of success and fruits of hard work. The lower right hand is in Abhaya Mudra. Which shows a sense of protection and blessings.
It is also necessary to have a rodent along with the idol.
While taking the idol of Ganesha, the presence of his vehicle Mushak is also kept in mind. According to religious belief, Mouse is the vehicle of Lord Ganesha. Therefore the idol of Ganesha along with the mouse is considered to be in its complete form.
Every color has its own special significance
Religious beliefs are also prevalent regarding the color of the idol of Ganesha. The white colored Ganesha idol is associated with happiness and prosperity. Ganeshji decorated with vermilion is considered a symbol of good luck. Yellow is associated with peace and purity. Whereas the green colored Ganesh idol is considered a symbol of prosperity and comforts.
