Liverpool goalkeeper Alisson Becker has been handed a hefty financial punishment after a heated incident during the Reds' recent draw with Nottingham Forest. FA imposes fine for misconduct near the tunnel

Alisson has received an £8,000 fine for misconduct following his furious reaction after Liverpool's 2-2 draw with Nottingham Forest last month. The Brazilian keeper could not contain his anger as he left the pitch, which led to an incident involving stadium equipment that was noticed by both match officials and the governing body.

The FA issued a detailed statement on Thursday confirming the punishment for Liverpool's first-choice goalkeeper. The FA statement said: "Liverpool's Alisson Becker has been fined £8,000 for misconduct at the Premier League fixture against Nottingham Forest on 29 August. It was alleged that the goalkeeper acted in an improper manner around the tunnel area after the final whistle. The penalty controversy at Anfield

The source of Alisson's anger came from a key moment in the second half, when he was judged to have fouled former Liverpool player Neco Williams inside the box. The Brazilian was left incensed after a penalty was awarded to Oliver Glasner's side at Anfield, with Williams going down in the area as Alisson came rushing out to close the angle.

Alisson's frustration did not ease as the game moved towards full time. Still upset by the penalty call after the final whistle, Becker was seen kicking the fourth official's board while heading towards the tunnel, and on Thursday he was punished with the four-figure fine for that outburst.

In a development that adds further context to Alisson's anger, the Premier League's Key Match Incidents (KMI) Panel later examined the footage and concluded that the original decision to award the penalty was in fact wrong.

The punishment comes after a ruling from the Premier League's Key Match Incidents Panel, which found that the penalty should not have been given in the first place. That conclusion from the independent panel confirms that the goalkeeper's instinct on the pitch was right, even though his reaction afterwards was considered unacceptable under the Football Association's disciplinary rules.

Penalty decision was wrong, but VAR was correct

The KMI Panel also explained in detail why the referee's on-field call was incorrect. "The contact from Alisson was inevitable as a consequence of his momentum in attempting to save the ball," the KMI Panel said. "The contact made was not reckless and below the threshold for a penalty."
