The pacer Yash Thakur has been added to the India Squad for the upcoming three-match T20I series against Afghanistan and the Asian Games 2026. He will be replacing the injured Harshit Rana.
Harshit Rana, who was recovering from a hamstring injury at BCCI’s CoE, was ruled out after sustaining another injury. A statement from the BCCI has confirmed the injury to be a rectus femoris strain sustained while bowling during a match simulation on September 07.
Rana sustained a hamstring injury during the third T20I against England at Trent Bridge. He also injured his knee during India’s warmup match against South Africa ahead of the 2026 T20 World Cup and was ruled out of the tournament. He underwent surgery and missed the IPL 2026 season.
Thakur earned the India call-up after an impressive performance during last year’s Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy, where he bagged 18 wickets in seven games. He picked up four wickets from two matches at an economy rate of 9.37 on tour of Zimbabwe. In 50 Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy games, Yash Thakur has picked 81 wickets.
Meanwhile, Nitish Reddy, Washington Sundar and Jasprit Bumrah await fitness clearance for the T20I series against Afghanistan and have been named in the squad.
Shreyas Iyer-led squad will feature experienced campaigners like Axar Patel, Tilak Varma, Arshdeep Singh and Abhishek Sharma.
The 15-year-old Vaibhav Suryavanshi has been included in the squad for the upcoming series. India will take on Afghanistan in a three-match T20I series before heading to Japan to defend their gold medal at the Asian Games.
