Team India Physio Resigns: The Indian cricket team is going to play a 3-match T20 series against Afghanistan from 13th September. Before this series, a big news to the team’s support staff has come out. National team physiotherapist Kamlesh Jain has resigned from his post. Jain, who will take charge of Team India’s medical setup in June 2022, is currently completing his three-month notice period and is waiting to be relieved from the Board of Control for Cricket in India. If BCCI does not relieve him first, then the New Zealand tour ending in December may prove to be his last assignment with Team India.

Questions raised over repeated injuries to players

Kamlesh Jain’s resignation has come at a time when serious questions were being raised for a long time regarding injury management in Indian cricket. In the last few months, incidents of repeated injuries to important players and them becoming unfit again after recovery had forced the board to think. BCCI and the team management had recently reviewed Jain’s role due to the alleged decline in the fitness level of the players and frequent problems on the field.

Especially during the England tour, Indian players were repeatedly seen struggling with the problem of cramps and lack of fitness, due to which serious questions were raised on the medical team. Something similar was seen during the recent tour to Sri Lanka also.

10 years journey in KKR, got responsibility again

Kamlesh Jain is counted among the most experienced physios of Indian cricket. He started his journey with the domestic team of Bengal. After this, he was the head physio of the Indian Premier League franchise Kolkata Knight Riders for a decade from 2012 to 2022, where he took charge of the fitness of the players in several IPL seasons. On the basis of his excellent performance in domestic and franchise cricket, he was directly appointed as the physio of the senior Indian men’s team in June 2022. If sources are to be believed, after separating from BCCI, he can once again join any IPL franchise.

On the other hand, with the departure of Kamlesh Jain, there will be a major change in the medical and rehabilitation structure of the Indian team. BCCI is soon going to start the process of appointing a new head physio for the national team. However, the board has not yet set any official deadline regarding the name and deadline of the new physio.
